A homemade mask making initiative launched in Cayman in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, with original logo, illustrations and branding, social media pages, digital campaign, and PR interviews with all the major media in Cayman.
Following similar programmes that first started in Europe, CayMask provides instructions for how to create, use and sanitise a homemade mask, and includes a Facebook community for people to share or request homemade masks as needed. As well as creating their own mask, CayMask encouraged people to create extra masks for others in the community, especially those who are most vulnerable.
As the pandemic began and personal protective equipment shortages became apparent, The Red Cross of the Cayman Islands made an urgent appeal for home made masks and seamstresses to help create homemade masks for front line workers. The initial two weeks of CayMask diverted all promotion and resources to support their campaign until their stocks were satisfactory, at which point we diverted to wider all-community efforts.
